Every Thursday, Toby’s serves mussel chowder, with whole, juicy Penn Cove mussels.
Yesterday — Thursday — was rainy. Rainy, as in downpours. Gray clouds hung low over the treetops, over Penn Cove.
In other words, it was the perfect day to drive into town for mussel chowder, with garlic toast on the side.
Outside, it continued to rain.
Inside — well, it seems that the tourists have left. Toby’s was less than half full. This is a good thing.
There was a table empty and waiting.
We lingered over our delicious lunch and, warm and cozy, we gazed out the window at the gray afternoon.
